The Club 40 is the defining early sound of the JTM-50 and JMP-50 Bass 50 watt heads. The amp uses an JTM/Bass circuit voiced for a flat frequency response. GZ-34 rectifier and ss rectifier are selectable by a switch allowing for the softer rounder feel of a JTM-50 or in ss mode the quicker pick attack and response of a JMP-50 Bass head.
Output transformer is a Drake replica of the 784-139 specifically designed for EL-34's however will also work with various other tubes such as 6L6, 5881 and KT-66's. For lower power output 6V6's may be used also. Plate voltage is around 415-420vdc with GZ-34 rectifier and 430-435vdc with ss rectifier. Initial filtering is 64uf. Remaining stages are 32uf each. Power transformer is externally selectable for 120v, 200v, 220/230v and 240/250v operation.
The Club 40 as with all Germino amplifiers use the same quality components, carbon film and NOS carbon comp resistors along with Sozo brand "mustard" film/foil caps mounted on a hand drilled turret board. BCR and F & T electrolytic capacitors, 2 watt PEC pots, period correct black bat switches from the UK , Cliff jacks and NOS cinch tube sockets all mounted in an aluminum chassis with spot welded corners for strength. Custom wound transformers are period correct using 1202-118 P/T, 784-139 OPT and C1999 choke. The Club 40 is shipped with Winged "C" Svetlana EL-34's and Tung Sol 12AX7's.
The Club 40 excels with either single coils or humbuckers. Very responsive to volume control adjustments from the guitar and instantly gives the user extreme flexibility running the amp with or without pedals. An array of early tones that go from incredible cleans to the definition of British crunch. Pushed, the Club 40 easily gives effortless response and singing single note lines.
"This amp has a great clean sound and starts to break up around 4 on the volume, perfect for that slightly broken Jimi "clean" tone. The bottom end is perfect for a Strat. At higher volumes it distorts like an old Marshall should. When dimed it can get pretty crunchy with humbuckers. As far as the comparisons to the real vintage Marshalls ... I'll take this amp hands down. It's very close to the '68 and had a much richer tone than the '71." - Harmony Central review
"Nearly one month with the Club 40 and every day I get happier! Already used it in two big sessions, the amp passed with flying colors, you should see the engineer's face! Amazing fat tones, the cleans are UNBELIEVABLE too!" - Germino Club 40 owner
"Got the amp! I am happy to report that my modded Club 40 is one of the finest amps I've heard!!! Greg I am stunned, you are a true artist!" - Germino Club 40 owner
"I received the amp on Friday and I wanted to send you a HUGE THANK-YOU!!!! It sounds absolutely fantastic and I am very grateful to you for taking the time to tweak the amp. You are a top shelf guy and a genius with the amps!!" - Germino Club 40 owner
